Hip Hop lyrics are a com­plex mod­ern form of oral his­tory laced with inven­tive lan­guage. C.R.E.A.M sci­en­tif­i­cally dis­cov­ers and deci­phers words and mean­ing of a pop­u­lar song by the Wu-Tang Clan. Laser-etched glass floats in front of each invented word, and their inter­pre­ta­tions and def­i­n­i­tions are pro­jected as shad­ows. The piece speaks to the deep mean­ing and inven­tion in mod­ern hip hop lyri­cism, while anthro­po­log­i­cally doc­u­ment­ing its elu­sive morphologies.
